I was unbelievably excited to open this on Christmas Day - especially as I hadn’t even asked for it!

Tiffany Farrant: In a bid for minimalism...

I try to keep my life as organised and uncomplicated as possible, and to do so I use a good number of tools to organise, streamline and keep track of day-to-day business. Now, it suddenly occurred to be, that in my bid to be uncomplicated I have just made things 10x more complicated.

Every day,…

In terms of desktop applications, I use my email, Google Reader, and Google Docs for projects I want to share with people. I have a few frequently-used apps on my iPhone for productivity on the go - Reeder, an excellent RSS reader which syncs with my Google Reader account and can publish links to Twitter, Facebook and various other places; Putting Things Off, a nice simple to-do list app; Echofon, for tweeting; Instapaper, for saving longer articles and reading them later.

That said, I find that when I’m out and about, there’s little substitute for a notebook and pen. I use a plain pocket Moleskine and miniature ballpoint pen for quick notes. Also, inspired by this post at 43 Folders, I’ve started carrying around a set of 5”x3” index cards held together with a binder clip to record my tasks, sorted by category. It’s actually been very good for keeping my various to-do lists organised and making sure certain things don’t get left by the wayside.

If you don’t have some kind of kit for capturing ideas, even if it’s a 50p reporter’s notebook and a pencil from the local shop for local people, you’re doing it wrong.
Warren Ellis. Amen to that.
